Blog Post: My Biggest Inspirations Musically

by J-Xile on Nov.17, 2010, under Blog

Today I wanted to share with you what my biggest inspirations are in my career and path to success. Inspiration is extremely important in any endeavor, especially one that requires your creative side. Inspiration can pull you out of a slump, give you goals and a model to work towards, and help you focus. Without inspiration I can definitely tell you I wouldn’t be making music today, that’s for sure. My inspiration comes from several sources, from other artists, to people in my life.

Growing up Rap music was always my favorite music. Before I even knew what they were saying I was bumping Snoop, Dre, and Eazy-E. The first rap song I probably ever heard and liked was Kriss Kross’s jump way back in 1992. The beat was so gangsta and it had an extremly catchy hook. I can remember that as one of the first songs/albums I liked. I got the tape somehow and it was all I listended to for a while. The next artist was Snoop Dogg with his Doggystyle album back in 1993. I remember that album like the back of my hand, and it was definitley one of the albums that made rap/hip hop my favorite music at a young age. I remember beatboxing the beat from Serial Killa, and I wished someday that I could be a rapper and somehow make beats. This was the birth of my inspiration to make rap music.

I was then exposed to Eazy-E’s 187um Killa, an album dedicated to dissing Eazy-E’s one time partner Dr. Dre, and his new protege Snoop Dogg, back in 1994. 187 to this day is the most gangsta album I can think of. I remember even though I didn’t know what half of it meant, I loved the song Gimme That Nut, which was an extremely nasty song (about sex), and I can remember playing that back trying to figure out everything he was talking about. It’s safe to say I got an early sex ed from that song, and I would have to say it is the nastiest song I have ever heard. The rest of the album was dark, gangsta music dedicated to the assaination of Dre. To this day it is one of my most influential albums.

Blog Post: My New Outlook as a Rap/Hip Hop Artist.

by J-Xile on Nov.09, 2010, under Blog

I decided I should start using this site for what I intended it to be, a blog about my life as an artist and my journey to success.  What is success though?  It is different for everyone, if I were to say what my goal for success in life, it would be to own a nice house, have a beautiful wife, and live the American dream comfortably.  Judging from that, I have already achieved most of those goals, even though I am only 25 years old.  I own a beautiful house, have a girlfriend that I have been with for over 6 years and will soon marry, have a little dog I have trained from the ground up as a rescue dog, and live very comfortably while being self employed and working for myself.

When it comes to measuring my success as an artist is where things have always been hazy.  Up until recently I have gone back and forth on whether success to me is a Major label deal, performing in global tours, and being on the mainstream radio, to being independent, booking my own shows, selling my own merchandise, and reaping the rewards as a DIY-er.  There are plenty of artists that have gone indie and have made a great living off of it, Tech N9ne, and Master P especially come to mind.  This is a battle that is always going on inside, and makes it hard to focus on what I should be, music. I feel like I’m at a point where I am past that and will be prepared either way
